Centennial Celebration of the work of Mary Warnock (1924-2019)</span><span></span></p>
<p style="margin-right:0in;margin-left:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"TimesNewRomanPSMT",serif">Mary Warnock was a
pioneering and influential figure in applied and public philosophy. In addition
to academic work on existentialism, ethical theory, the imagination,
reproductive ethics, and the philosophy of religion, her reports on special
needs education and artificial reproduction had a major impact on public
awareness and public policy. </span><span></span></p>
<p style="margin-right:0in;margin-left:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"TimesNewRomanPSMT",serif">The </span><i><span style="font-family:"TimesNewRomanPS",serif">Journal of Applied Philosophy </span></i><span style="font-family:"TimesNewRomanPSMT",serif">(JOAP) plans a special issue to
commemorate Mary Warnock’s centennial with the final issue of the 2024 volume.
The issue will feature both academic articles (6000-8000 words) in any area of
applied philosophy, with special emphasis on areas in which Mary Warnock
published; as well as shorter interventions (1500-3000 words) in </span><b><span style="font-family:"TimesNewRomanPS",serif">public </span></b><span style="font-family:"TimesNewRomanPSMT",serif">philosophy, understood as the
attempt to engage lucidly and nontechnically with timely issues of public
debate or to put issues onto the public agenda. </span><span></span></p>

applied philosophy, with special emphasis on those in which Mary Warnock
published. Papers should be prepared for anonymous review according to JOAP
guidelines and submitted through the Journal’s submission portal. When

Writing should be nontechnical and accessible. Articles should be prepared for
anonymous review and accompanied by a very short (two-sentence) abstract
indicating the topic and the position defended on that topic. When submitting,

publication in <em>Social Philosophy Today</em>, a peer-reviewed journal
published electronically and available for print on demand. Although
most articles published in <em>Social Philosophy Today</em> are based
on papers presented at the conference, the journal is not a proceedings
volume. Only those articles recommended on the basis of peer review will
be accepted for publication.<span></span></p>
<p style="margin-right:0in;margin-left:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><strong>NASSP Conference Awards for Graduate Students:</strong><b><br>
</b>The North American Society for Social Philosophy awards an annual prize of
$800 for the best Graduate Student Paper on a topic in social
philosophy. Prizes will only be awarded to conference attendees who are
still enrolled in a program towards a degree beyond the B.A. or first
university diploma at the time of the conference. (Note that if the paper
is coauthored then all the authors must meet this requirement.) There is no
obligation to use prize money for conference-related costs.<br>
To be considered for this award, full papers of no more than 3,000 words
