Call For Abstracts: 2021 APA Central NASSP Group Session
North American Society for Social Philosophy (NASSP)
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Group Session at the APA Central Division Meeting (February 2022)
[The meeting is currently scheduled at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago from 2/23 – 2/26, but it will be held virtually if required by COVID precautions.]
Theme: THE END OF THE U.S. WAR IN AFGHANISTAN
You are invited to submit a proposal for a paper that addresses ethical issues concerning the total withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan announced by President Biden after 20 years of military conflict that began with the 9/11 terrorist attack on the United States. Questions that are relevant to the theme are those that concern jus post bellum and jus ex bello. These may include whether withdrawal is morally acceptable, what the appropriate point should be for a war to end, morally preferable alternatives and different ways to end a war, moral obligations to those impacted by the war, and the implications for future military engagements.
Submission Deadline for a paper abstract of 400-500 words (in addition, the inclusion of a list of references will be helpful): August 31, 2021
You do not need to be a member of NASSP to submit and present. Decisions on paper acceptance will be sent out to you by September 15, 2021.
Full details of the group session will be included in the online APA conference program. (Note that you will need to register for the APA meeting in order to present a paper. There is a discount on registration for APA members.)
Submissions and inquiries should be sent by email to: dkchan@uab.edu
